― About API use application

When using the NDL Great East Japan Earthquake Archive (HINAGIKU) API (hereinafter referred to as the "API"), please observe the following conditions. Please also refer to "Copyright/Links".

1. Terms of Use

If you wish to use the data for commercial purposes (i.e., if you are a commercial company or organization, or if you are an individual or non-profit organization that derives some profit from the use of the data), you may be required to apply for use, or you may not be able to use the data.
Please check the "For commercial use" column of the "List of Data Providers and Available Metadata".

2. Application for Use

Please send the following items to the e-mail address listed in the "Inquiries" section. The library will decide whether the use is acceptable or not and reply to you.
  • Applicant's affiliation, name, address, telephone number, and e-mail address
  • Name and URL of the service that uses this API (if there is no URL, please provide a means to confirm the service)
  • The entity that established the service, etc. (name of the organization, etc.)
  • Purpose, outline, and paid/free status of the service, etc.
  • Protocol you wish to use
  • Name and data items of the database to be used (e.g., "title" item of "National Diet Library Digital Collections", etc.) For a list of databases that can be searched and collected through this API, please refer to the "List of Data Providers and Available Metadata").

3. Notes

(1) Requests for API Usage Status
If you access the API on a continuous basis, please provide your contact information and usage details to the e-mail address listed in the "Inquiries" section, regardless of whether you need to apply for API usage.
The information you provide will be used to inform you of any changes to the API specifications and to improve our services through an understanding of the actual API usage.

(2) Cautions regarding mass access
To avoid overloading the server, we have set a limit on the number of simultaneous requests. In addition, if there is a continuous large volume of access from a particular server, we may take measures such as blocking access.

(3) Description of Source
Websites and applications that use this API must clearly indicate the source as follows.
  • The "NDL" in "Provider of metadata" in the "List of Data Providers and Available Metadata" is bibliographic data provided by the National Diet Library. Please use such data in accordance with the directions in "Using Bibliographic Data".
  • When using metadata provided by other institutions (those with "Other institution" in "Provider of metadata" in the "List of Data Providers and Available Metadata"), please provide the name of the provider (archive name, etc.). However, when metadata is edited or processed for use, please also indicate that the metadata has been edited or processed.

(4) Third Party Rights
Metadata does not include content such as images (including thumbnail images), video, and audio that are displayed from the URLs described in the metadata. If you wish to use such content, please obtain permission from the copyright holder of the relevant content, except for material for which the copyright protection period has expired.
