This project at the Higashimatsushima Library has been collecting photos, videos, newsletters, anthologies, and other materials about Higashimatsushima city before and after the Great East Japan Earthquake. The collected materials are made available to the public in order to preserve the memory of the impact the earthquake had on Higashimatsushima as well as to prevent future tragedies, to assist the prompt recovery of the disaster victims, to provide material for disaster prevention education, to contribute to rebuilding the community, and to promote research into disaster prevention and reduce damage from natural disasters.
As of April 24th, 2014, video recordings of Higashimatsushima residents describing their experiences during the Great East Japan Earthquake are available to the public. 23 interviews in digest format are available via the Internet on HINAGIKU, and 21 full-length interviews are available on the premises at the National Diet Library.
