Common

Retrieval method Description Example
Prefix search

Prefix search of metadata item values can be done by entering a slash (/) before the search string.

Example: To find a material whose title begins with the text string "port," enter "/port" in the title column of the advanced search.

Exact match search

Exact match search of metadata values can be done by entering slashes (/) before and after the search strings.

Example: To find materials of the title "tsunami" and not "big tsunami" or "tsunami warning," enter "/tsunami/" in the subject column of the advanced search.

Phrase search

Phrase search is available by entering quotation marks ("") before and after the retrieval strings.

It is used, for example, when searching in English by specific word order, such as "Earthquake and Tsunami." The difference between single- and double-byte letters and spaces is not distinguished.

Keyword search

When you enter only the retrieval strings, partial match search is done. When you enter single- or double-byte spaces between the keywords, partial match search is also done by AND condition.

* Advanced search only

You can search for items by the "date created" or "date issued." By using the dates field of the advanced search, you can also search by "year" and "year/month," and also choose the "range specification" and "date specification."

Example:

  • To search for items created after 2011, enter "2011/(null)/(null)-(null)/(null)/(null)" in the dates field.
  • To search for items created before 2011, enter "(null)/(null)/(null)-2011/(null)/(null)" in the dates field.
  • To search from March 2000 to October 2012, enter "2000/03/(null)-2012/10/(null)" in the dates field.
  • To search from March 11, 2011 to October 31, 2012, enter "2011/03/11-2012/10/31"in the dates field.

Error Description Remarks
Search result exceeded.

When the number of search results exceeds 1,000, the following message is displayed.
"The number of search results exceeds 1,000. Please refine your search."

(Simple search, Advanced search)

When no item corresponds to the search conditions, the following message is displayed:
"No results found for "***"."
"***" is any retrieval string.

You can browse each content by clicking the images.

* If the content is held by an affiliated organization, you can access the content page of the organization.

By clicking, you will move to the search results list screen (Pictures).

On the search results list screen (Pictures), items which appear when you search without specifying the condition using the simple or advanced search will be displayed.

Top-10Sound and Videos

By clicking, you will move to the search results list screen (Sound and Videos).

On the search results list screen (Sound and Videos), items which appear when you search without specifying the condition using the simple or advanced search will be displayed.

Shortcuts to each page of the National Diet Library Great East Japan Earthquake Archive.

Click the link to access each of the pages.

Top-12News

The four latest news items are displayed. Click on a title of the news, and you can read the full text of the news items.

By clicking "All indication", all of the news will appear in a list.

By clicking the RSS button, and the RSS feed will be displayed, including the ten latest news items.

Top-13 Footer link

Links to the top page of each institution or service are available from the Footer link, except for "About". The button "About" is linked to "About the National Diet Library Great East Japan Earthquake Archive (Nickname: HINAGIKU)", and "Contact us" to the "9 Inquiries".

It is the same for other pages.

Setting screen Description

Change the size of characters.

If you click once, the characters will be enlarged.

10 results per page, 20 results per page, 40 results per page, 60 results per page, 80 results per page, 100 results per page.

By clicking the Simple search tab on the top page, the Simple search screen will be displayed.

On the top page, the Simple search screen is displayed as the initial state.

By clicking "►", years are displayed.

By clicking "►" lower level "year", "months" are displayed, and further by clicking "►" lower level "months", "days" are displayed. By clicking "Year" or "Year-month" or "Year-Month-Day", you will move to the search results list screen.
* Depending on the material, multiple values may be given. In that case, it is included in the number of each value.

The Data Provider list is displayed.

By clicking the Data Provider name, you will move to the search results list screen.

The Language list of "Japanese", "English", "Chinese", "Korean" and others are displayed.

  • Numbers : Move to the selected page.
  • "|◄" : Move to the previous page.

  • "►|" : Move to the next page.
  • "►►|" : Move to the last page.

The icon is displayed. If there are thumbnail images, the images are displayed. If the contents can be browsed, you will move to the browsing page of each content by clicking it.

g "Refine your results" and "Other services"



By selecting and clicking the refined condition in the left paneof the Search results list screen(d-1, e-1), the refined condition is displayed at the top of the left pane (g-1). And the items of the refined condition will be displayed in "g-2".

The left pane(d-1, e-1) is common to the Search results list screen, the Search results list screen (Pictures) and the Search results list screen (Sound and Videos).

The right pane(d-13) is displayed only on the Search results list, and is not displayed in the Search results list screen (Pictures) and the Search results list screen (Sound and Videos).

The refined retrieval conditions selected at "d-1" are displayed in "Refine your results". Clicking the "Remove" button on the right side of each refined condition will cancel each refining and display the search results list before each refining.

After refining the search results, the items which can be refined will be displayed in the left pane(d-1, e-1).

You can search on the services other than HINAGIKU in "Services by NDL", "Administrative Document", "Academic information", "Search engines", and "Other" by entering search terms which you used on HINAGIKU.

g-4Related Keywords

If the search term is collected in Web NDL Authorities, "Broader terms", "Narrower terms", and "Related terms" corresponded with the search term will be displayed.

By clicking "Broader terms", "Narrower terms" or "Related terms", the string you clicked can be searched as "search term".

* If you search with multiple search terms, they are not displayed.

g-5Export your results

You can export the search results which are displayed in the search results list screen by RSS.

By clicking "RSS", the RSS feed screen will be displayed.

When you export the search results of "Search results list screen (Pictures)" or "Search results list screen (Sound and Videos)" by RSS, you will display the screen and designate "Pictures" or "Sound and Videos" of "Content type" on the left pane(d-1, e-1).
