This is a library in Namie Town, located in the northern part of Hamadori (coastal area) of Fukushima Prefecture. This is the seventh collaboration in Fukushima Prefecture, and the second among public libraries after the Fukushima Prefectural Library. Collected books can be searched.

It has been nearly twenty years since the Chuetsu Earthquake struck Niigata Prefecture on October 23, 2004. In commemoration of this tragic natural disaster, five photographs from Nagaoka Historical Archives will be exhibited on the top page of HINAGIKU from October 22 to November 5.

In addition to local historical materials, Nagaoka Historical Archives also makes records of the Chuetsu Earthquake and other events available to the public. It collects documentary materials related to disasters and reconstruction in Nagaoka City and works with citizen volunteers to organize and preserve them, passing on the experiences and memories of the disaster to the future.

"Digital Archives of Kumamoto Disasters" makes photographs, videos, documents, and other materials collected from a wide range of local governments and related organizations publicly available to preserve the experiences and lessons learned from the Kumamoto earthquake and the July 2020 heavy rains for future generations and to apply them to future disaster response.

Termination of Yahoo Geocoding API and Yahoo Reverse Geocoding API, and introduction of jageocoder

Until now, location information (latitude and longitude) and address information (names of prefectures, cities, towns, and villages, etc.) have been added to metadata using the Yahoo! Geocoding API and Yahoo! Reverse Geocoding API provided by Yahoo Japan Corporation, and have been used to display category locations, etc. However, we have decided to discontinue the use of these APIs. Instead, we have decided to supplement location and address information by introducing jageocoder.

With this latest addition, we now have a collection of the Nuclear Regulation Authority's videos from September 2012 to December 2022.

We have terminated the use of the automatic translation service by KODENSHA Corporation we have been using. As a result, only Japanese and English will be available for language selection. It has been nearly 29 years since the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake on January 17th, 1995. In commemoration of this tragic natural disaster, five photographs from two archives will be exhibited on the top page of HINAGIKU from January 15th to January 31st, 2024.

The two archives are the Kobe University Library Digital Archive Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Disaster Materials Collection and the Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution (DRI).
Both archives are located in Kobe and collect a variety of records related to the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
They are also working on a number of initiatives intended to hand down experience from the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake and to apply those lessons to future needs. You can search materials from these archives via HINAGIKU.

Overview of the collection

The Kobe University Collection includes books, research reports, survey reports, statistical compilations and other printed matter as well as CD-ROMs and other electronic media, videos, audio cassettes, microforms, photographs, and maps.
Moreover, it includes a Digital Gallery, from which photographs or audio and other materials are accessible, as well as news material footage by local TV station "Sun Television". On the page of fixed-point photographs (Japanese) , you can see the status of restoration at the same place after the earthquake disaster.

The Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear Disaster Memorial Museum
The Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear Disaster Memorial Museum is a prefectural facility in Futaba, Fukushima Prefecture, which opened in September 2020.
The museum features exhibits of the reality of the unprecedented disaster caused by the combined effects of an earthquake and tsunami which led to the TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident as well as serves as a forum at which residents who were affected by the disaster can tell their stories.
The museum also houses an archive for the collection, preservation, and exhibition of testimony to Fukushima's recovery, which is also a platform for disseminating information on the experiences and lessons of Fukushima both domestically and internationally.
The museum's reference room holds books on the Great East Japan Earthquake and books on nuclear disasters as well as records of earthquakes and other disasters from various municipalities, all of which can be searched for in HINAGIKU.

It has been nearly nineteen years since the Chuetsu Earthquake struck Niigata Prefecture on October 23, 2004. *On July 1st, 2023, the name of the archive was changed from "the Historical Archive Section in Nagaoka City Central Library" to "the Nagaoka City Historical Archives".

Digital Archive Map of Disaster Monuments (National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED))
The Digital Archive Map of Disaster Monuments database is built in collaboration with a number of institutions and provided by the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), and Kochi University.
This database records the locations of and inscriptions found on monuments that memorialize earthquake and other disasters throughout Japan. Using the map, users are able to locate and to browse monuments on the Web-GIS as well as to view details of the monuments by clicking on the icons on the map.
The monuments cover the Great East Japan earthquake, the 1933 Showa Sanriku earthquake, the 1896 Meiji Sanriku tsunami, and many other natural disasters.
Monuments memorializing earthquakes and volcanos are listed by year and name of disaster, storms and floods are listed by the year and month in which they occurred.

Project "What Can We Do Now?"
Project "What Can We Do Now?" is a voluntary organization that was established in March 2011. The Great East Japan Earthquake brought about unprecedented devastation. Various domestic and international civic groups, NPOs, NGOs, and many volunteers engaged in support activities for the victims in various places, and also rushed to the affected areas, wondering what they can do to help.
The project was launched with the aim of conveying this "now" to the whole country through the power of regular citizens, planning a TV broadcast, and broadcasted a program produced by regular citizens on BS National TV for one year.
After that, the project shifted to the web to disseminate information.
HINAGIKU now offers access to these videos provided by Project "What Can We Do Now?".

ABC TV The Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake 1995 recorded interview video archives
The Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake was the first major earthquake in history where the fateful moment and the subsequent reconstruction process were recorded in detail on video. ABC (Asahi Broadcasting Group Holdings Corporation) retains an expansive library of archived footage from the event and the aftermath.
ABC wanted to share the lessons conveyed by these images for the benefit of future generations, as well as to make use of these valuable images for disaster prevention and mitigation in the future. With this in mind, ABC released portions of their Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Video Footage Archive to the public online in January 2020, the 25th anniversary of the earthquake.

The National Diet Library digitized 107 flyers and other materials related to earthquake disasters, and collected them in HINAGIKU. A total of 363 items have been released, including 256 items from fiscal year 2018. The digitized images of flyers and other materials are available only at the National Diet Library, not outside the National Diet Library.

With the closure of the archives of the agricultural, fishery and forestry cooperative organizations' (JA: Japan Agricultural Cooperatives, JF: Japan Fisheries Cooperatives, JForest: Japanese Forest Owners' Cooperatives, etc.) activities for the restoration from the Great East Japan Earthquake, the National Diet Library have received permission to take over the data of these archives, and to make it available to the public on HINAGIKU.
You can search the data in the same way as before it was taken over. The pages you access will be websites archived by the Web Archiving Project (WARP).

Archives of agricultural, fishery and forestry cooperative organizations' activities for the restoration from the Great East Japan Earthquake were closed on November 30, 2020.
As a result, access from the National Diet Library Great East Japan Earthquake Archive (Nickname: HINAGIKU) to the database, which can still be searched on HINAGIKU, is not available.
The transfer of materials to HINAGIKU is being coordinated with Norinchukin Research Institute Co., Ltd.

Tsumugi is an archive for information about the impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake on the town of Otsuchi, Iwate. It holds documents created by the government, private enterprise, and individuals of the memories, lessons learned, and future plans for the town so that this information can be passed on to future generations for use in planning measures to prevent and mitigate future disasters.

International Symposium on the Great East Japan Earthquake Archive FY 2019: "Facilities and archives commemorating the disaster" (held at Tohoku University on January 11th, 2020).
The National Diet Library (NDL) and the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS) of Tohoku University will hold the International Symposium on the Great East Japan Earthquake Archive. First, a special lecture will introduce the efforts of the Pacific Tsunami Museum in Hawaii as an overseas example of an earthquake disaster facility. Second, as examples from Japan, we will report on the current situation of earthquake archives and earthquake disaster facilities throughout the country, including the National Diet Library Great East Japan Earthquake Archive (HINAGIKU). Last, we will discuss how earthquake archives and earthquake disaster facilities can build relationships to increase their utilization.

New content from the NDL Great East Japan Earthquake Archive (HINAGIKU)

Iwate Future Organization
Between 2011 and 2018, Spanish painter José María SICILIA visited on multiple occasions areas afflicted by the Great East Japan Earthquake, including Kamaishi, Ofunato, Rikuzentakata, Minami Soma, and Fukushima. While there he held workshops for children and others, in which he taught the participants how to express their experiences during the disaster as well as their childhood memories in art. Iwate Future Organization is a non-profit organization, originally known as the IAM Group, which has been accompanying and reporting on all of Mr. SICILIA's activities. Thanks to the generosity of Iwate Future Organization, Hinagiku now offers access to these reports as well as photographs of the workshops and artwork created by the participants.

Related to the release of this new content, an exhibition and a lecture will be held at the International Library of Children's Literature (ILCL).
The exhibition will run from Thursday, September 20th, 2018 to Sunday, February 24th, 2019, and the lecture will take place on Friday, September 28th, 2018, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Both will feature an introduction to the NDL Great East Japan Earthquake Archive Hinagiku.

On August 31, 2018, the National Diet Library and the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience concluded a cooperation agreement before Japan's National Disaster Prevention Day, September 1. Newly Released Materials Related to the Great East Japan Earthquake at the National Diet Library: Yoshida-ke monjo restoration work

August 31st, 2018

The Yoshida-ke monjo is a set of historical documents designated by Iwate Prefecture as a tangible cultural properties that were badly damaged during the Great East Japan Earthquake.
The National Diet Library began conservation and restoration work on the Yoshida-ke monjo in October 2012, finally completing the project in September 2014.
The NDL is now pleased to release 40 photographs of the restoration and repair work.

●The Day Before Project from the Cabinet Office
The Day Before Project is an activity of the Cabinet Office, in which victims of natural disasters are interviewed about their experiences. Each episode features an interview in which the guest is asked "What would you do if you could go back in time to the day before the disaster?"
The interviews touch upon the following topics.
1. What did you do immediately after the disaster?
2. What did you gain from your experience, and what did you lose?
3. What would you do if you found yourself in the midst of another disaster?
4. How have you prepared for future disasters?
Hinagiku contains an index to 403 episodes of The Day Before Project, searchable by episode title or name of the disaster.

Transcriptions of each The Day Before Project episode can be accessed from either a search result page or a detailed information page on the Hinagiku website. These transcriptions were acquired in the past from the Cabinet Office website by the National Diet Library Web Archiving Project (WARP).

Kumamoto Earthquake Digital Archive
Kumamoto prefecture established this Archive for recording the experiences and lessons of the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquakes and transmitting the actual condition of the damage and know-how learned during the Earthquake disaster restoration process to posterity.
This Archive collects the photographs, videos, and materials including document related to the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquakes from Kumamoto prefecture, municipalities in the prefecture, corporations, volunteer organizations such as NPO and others.

New content of the NDL Great East Japan Earthquake Archive (HINAGIKU).

Iwate Earthquake Tsunami Archive "Hope"
Iwate prefecture established this Archive in collaboration with municipality and relevant organizations concerning disaster prevention for transmitting the state of the reconstruction and recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake including tsunami to posterity and applying the lessons of these experiences to future activities and disaster prevention education domestically and overseas. It shows clearly the process of each activity such as emergency disaster control measures by classifying materials concerning the disaster of the earthquake and tsunami under six topics and defining the time base of each topic.

In commemoration of this tragic natural disaster, five photographs from Kobe University Library Digital Archive Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Disaster Materials Collection will be exhibited on the top page of HINAGIKU from January 17th to January 31st, 2018. By clicking each photograph, you can move to the page of the Collection, where these photographs are displayed in detail.

Videos of plenary sessions and committee meetings related to the Great East Japan Earthquake from the 184th to the 190th Diet sessions are now available in HINAGIKU. These videos were originally broadcast on the House of Representatives Internet TV and House of Councillors on the House of Councillors Internet deliberation relay (Japanese only).

With this addition, the HINAGIKU site now hosts videos of plenary sessions and committee meetings related to the Great East Japan Earthquake from the 177th Diet session, which took place immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake in March, 2011, to the 190th Diet session in 2016.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission archives materials published at press conferences, homepages, etc. on the Tokyo Electric Power Company Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident. Among the materials owned and published by the former Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency and other institutions, materials which were published approximately one year after the Great East Japan Earthquake are included. It consists of radiation monitoring results, damage situation reports, notices from the Tokyo Electric Power Company, etc.

 

Materials released on HINAGIKU were provided by the Nuclear Regulation Authority. This time, materials with file names starting with the letters FF and FK are published. Materials with file names starting with the letters F and R are currently under preparation.

International Symposium on the Great East Japan Earthquake Archive FY 2016: "Advancing and deepening Disaster Archives six years after the earthquake disaster"

The National Diet Library (NDL) and the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS) of Tohoku University are pleased to hold a symposium on the Great East Japan Earthquake Archive at the auditorium of IRIDeS, Tohoku University, on January 20th, 2017. The symposium will feature a special lecture by Professor Andrew Gordon, The JDArchive Project Director, Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies at Harvard University, current case reports and so on.

On October 23rd, 2015, the Historical archive section in Nagaoka city central library published 19 photographs which are holdings at the Collection of Post-disaster Reconstruction in Nagaoka city. This time, more photographs have been published on March 11th, 2016. By this release, 2,055 photographs which were taken of the damage situation at 20 schools elementary and junior high schools in Nagaoka city by the "Mid Niigata prefecture Earthquake in 2004," will be to be able to browse through HINAGIKU. The record content are as follows.

The National Diet Library (NDL) and the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS) of Tohoku University are pleased to hold a symposium on the Great East Japan Earthquake Archive at the auditorium of IRIDeS, Tohoku University, on January 11th, 2016.
The symposium will feature discussion of the advantages and challenges of maintaining digital archives of disaster records and the significance of these archives for the affected municipalities.

Materials from Rikuzentakata Earthquake Archive are now available

The Rikuzentakata Earthquake Archive, which had been in coordination with the National Diet Library Great East Japan Earthquake Archive (Nickname: HINAGIKU). was closed on November 30th, 2014.

Rikuzentakata Earthquake Archive was closed.

 

Due to the closure of the Rikuzentakata Earthquake Archive, the National Diet Library has received permission to provide the materials via HINAGIKU from 7 groups and 11 people out of the copyright holders who had provided their content via the Rikuzentakata Earthquake Archive.

Materials which completed preparation have already begun provided via HINAGIKU. From now on, all of the subject material will be available.

 

The main materials are as follows:

 

・Otsuchi Town Waterworks Office
Includes photographs of waterworks restoration work conducted in Otsuchi Town, Iwate prefecture, after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
 
・Takata Driving School
Includes photographs of Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture, after the Great East Japan Earthquake. There are aerial photographs and photographs of Rikuzentakata Driving School, which became the base of supplies assistance and reconstruction activities.
 
・Tohkai Shimpo (Tohkai Shimpo Co.,)
The Tohkai Shimpo is a newspaper published by the Tohkai Shimpo Co., headquartered in Rikuzentakata, Iwate. Newspaper of the following period are included.
 (a)All pages from March 1st, 2011, (Vol.15976) to June 30th, 2011 (Vol. 16079).

The Earthquake Archive Room at Iwaki Meisei University collects and preserves information in a variety of media, including written records, videos, testimony, and books, on earthquakes that affected the Hamadoori district.
"Memories of Hamadoori" is an archive managed by the Earthquake Archive Room of Iwaki Meisei University, containing a variety of testimony and videos.

As of June 29th, 2015, 228 photos and 9 testimony records are accessible via HINAGIKU.

Of the videos of the House floor proceedings which had been publicized in the House of Councillors Internet deliberation relay (Japanese only), HINAGIKU collects the plenary sittings and meetings related to the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Videos of the plenary sittings and committee meetings held between March 11th, 2011 (the day the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred) and March 25th, 2011 of the 177th session of the Diet (from January 24th, 2011 to August 31st, 2011).will be available from now on.

Disaster Information Laboratory, National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention (NIED) website publishes materials on natural disasters and disaster prevention. Preliminary reports a of survey taken after the Great East Japan Earthquake, 2011, and photos of monuments to the tsunami, etc. created by NIED are available on a "Special site for the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake", including photographs etc. Some of them are collected in HINAGIKU.

Norinchukin Research Institute Co., Ltd. engage in medium- and long-term studies on agriculture, forestry and fisheries, food issues and the environment, supplying timely information on economic and financial developments, practical research on agricultural, forestry and fishery cooperatives.
A website which collects information on the past, present, and future of agricultural, fishery and forestry cooperatives' efforts for the reconstruction and reconstruction from the earthquake and nuclear accident, in cooperation with these cooperatives and their federations: JA-ZENCHU, JF Zengyoren, National Federation of Forest Owners' Co-operative Associations and others.

The center for remembering 3.11 (commonly known as recorder311) has been established in sendai mediatheque on May 3rd, 2011 in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake. The multimedia studio is a place where residents, specialists, and staff members collaborate to disseminate information as well as record the restoration and recovery process. Through a variety of media, we aim to share information and promote recovery as well as record and preserve photos, films, sounds and texts in an Earthquake Disaster Recovery Archive.

ICT Project for Preserving Community Ties "Telling the Story of the Great East Japan Earthquake" (Higashimatsushima Library)
 
This project at the Higashimatsushima Library has been collecting photos, videos, newsletters, anthologies, and other materials about Higashimatsushima city before and after the Great East Japan Earthquake. The collected materials are made available to the public in order to preserve the memory of the impact the earthquake had on Higashimatsushima as well as to prevent future tragedies, to assist the prompt recovery of the disaster victims, to provide material for disaster prevention education, to contribute to rebuilding the community, and to promote research into disaster prevention and reduce damage from natural disasters.
As of April 24th, 2014, video recordings of Higashimatsushima residents describing their experiences during the Great East Japan Earthquake are available to the public. 23 interviews in digest format are available via the Internet on HINAGIKU, and 21 full-length interviews are available on the premises at the National Diet Library.

  • Aomori Disaster Archive

The archive was constructed as a joint project by Hachinohe city, Misawa city, Oirase town and Hashikami town in Aomori prefecture, which were all affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. The archive contains pictures, videos and accounts of experiences which were collected from the citizens, in addition to official documents.

- Great East Japan Earthquake Disaster Materials Collection (Iwate Prefectural Library)
 
This is a collection that the Iwate Prefectural Library has been providing for reading under the name of the Great East Japan Earthquake Disaster Materials Collection, to support the recovery and relief of the afflicted areas and provide disaster protection countermeasures.
The collection includes books, periodicals, public administration documents, handouts and various other materials related to the disaster from March 11th, 2011. As of January 10th, 2014, 1,667 bibliographic data of books, 2,989 bibliographic data of periodicals and 3,945 bibliographic data of handouts, etc. are searchable in HINAGIKU.

This is an archive of testimonies from people who suffered in the Great East Japan Earthquake, recorded by the NHK radio center for the purpose of making them public on the Internet and handing them down for the future.
Part of these testimonies was broadcast by NHK radio.
As of December 4th, 2013, 47 testimonies and 4 recordings of living in the area affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake are searchable in the HINAGIKU.

- Shinsai bunko (the Sendai Shimin Library Collection of materials related to the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11th, 2011)
 
This is a collection that the Sendai City Library has been collecting since May 2011 and providing for reading as the Shinsai bunko (the Sendai Shimin Library Collection of materials related to the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11th, 2011), for the purpose of passing on the memories and lessons from the disaster to the future generations and of support for recovery and relief of the afflicted areas.
The collection includes books, newspapers, public administration documents, and various other materials related to the disaster from March 11th, 2011 to the present. As of November 22nd, 2,440 bibliographic data of books, leaflets, etc. and periodical index data are searchable in the HINAGIKU.

The Digital Archives deliver information and data concerning nuclear disaster collected aiming at preparing for the guidelines on the activities (ranging from prevention to relief and recovery) of the Red Cross in case of a nuclear disaster. It provides records of the relief activities of the Red Cross after the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Accident, interviews of the doctors and nurses of the Red Cross hospital, relief staff and local staff from other prefectures.
As of October 31st, it provides 377 documents, 142 photos, 2 videos, and 11 others.

The archive collects and accumulates records of organizations and institutions involved in women's education in Japan for rebirthing local communities by reconstruction assistance. The National Women's Education Center established it, organizations and institutions involved in women's education enter data into it. It provides records of workshops, lectures, seminars, etc.
As of October 31st, it provides 73 documents, 46 photos.

  • Ishinomaki Bay
    "Ishinomaki Bay" is one of the photographs in Aerial photographs(Diagonal photographs). Aerial photographs(Diagonal photographs) of the coastal areas of Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture from Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture has been recorded.
    All photographs were taken on March 12th, 2011, the day after the Great East Japan Earthquake by  Aero Asahi Corporation.They are also published on "disaster area map information", which is in "The Great East Japan Earthquake Information special page" on the website of Aero Asahi Corporation.
    There are 344 photographs in NDL Great East Japan Earthquake Archive on August 8th, 2013.
     
  • Investigation report of earthquake and tsunami in the coastal areas of the Miyagi prefecture
    This report is one of the contents in the National Diet Library Digitized Contents.
    Ishinomaki weather station investigated the coastal areas of the Miyagi prefecture and issued report after the earthquake in 1933.
    In the National Diet Library Digitized Contents, there are materials about disaster of earthquake and tsunami, for example, Earthquakes in Ansei era of 1850's and 1860's, Kanto Great Eathquake in 1923.

    One of the videos of "That day, what I did ?" in the East Japan Great Earthquake Archives (NHK), which consist of testimony by the affected people.
    A pregnant woman gave testimony how she escaped for higher ground, with help by people around.

  • Sendai Tanabata Festival
    One of the photos of "Memories for the Future" in Google.
    The beauty of the gorgeous bamboo streamers is one of the most typical sights on summer's day. Streamers are decorated in Sendai, Miyagi where severely damaged by the earthquake and tsunami in hopes of speedy recovery in the summer of 2011.
    A project which collects and presents memories, including photos and movies of the beautiful scenery and nostalgic views lost in the earthquake posted on Internet photo and video sharing services operated by Google on the Memories for the Future website.

Aerial photographs(Diagonal photographs) of the coastal areas of Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture from Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture has been recorded .
All photographs were taken on March 12th, 2011, the day after the Great East Japan Earthquake by Aero Asahi Corporation. They are also published on "disaster area map information", which is in "The Great East Japan Earthquake Information special page" on the website of Aero Asahi Corporation.
There are 344 photographs in NDL Great East Japan Earthquake Archive on August 8th, 2013.

Remembering 3.11 (Tohoku Gakuin)
 
"Remembering 3.11" is the archive collecting and preserving records of damage and restoration in Tohoku Gakuin for contributing to future utilization of them.

The "living information" is being collected.
For example;
 
- Handwriting memo created and distributed just after the earthquake
- Records of restoration
- Records related to earthquake disaster
 
675 documents and 8,111 photos are searchable on HINAGIKU.

National Diet Library Great East Japan Earthquake Archive(HINAGIKU) was published

National Diet Library Great East Japan Earthquake Archive(HINAGIKU) was officially published on March 7th, 2013. HINAGIKU is a portal site which enables integrated search of records and reports of the earthquake disaster by public institutions, private organizations and media, and of research products by universities, academic societies and research institutes.
 
The "HINAGIKU", another name of the NDL Great East Japan Earthquake Archive, is a partial acronym of the "Hybrid Infrastructure for National Archive of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Innovative Knowledge Utilization." In the language of Flowers, hinagiku (daisy) - "future", "hope" and "sympathy" - includes the aim of the project supporting the earthquake recovery.
