ABC TV The Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake 1995 recorded interview video archives: The Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake was the first major earthquake in history where the fateful moment and the subsequent reconstruction process were recorded in detail on video. ABC (Asahi Broadcasting Group Holdings Corporation) retains an expansive library of archived footage from the event and the aftermath.
ABC wanted to share the lessons conveyed by these images for the benefit of future generations, as well as to make use of these valuable images for disaster prevention and mitigation in the future. With this in mind, ABC released portions of their Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Video Footage Archive to the public online in January 2020, the 25th anniversary of the earthquake.
